THE CHILDREN OF THE IMMIGRANT, SOME WERE BORN IN AMERICA
This will be known as the first Generation Thank You Mr. Thomas Myers It is hard for me to believe that nearly a decade has elapsed since my interest in Genealogy has developed. There is one person responsible and I thank him now. I was at the Spruance Library in Doylestown, Pa. trying to get started on the Hillpot Family tree with no direction whatsoever when I met Tom Myers. Tom showed me his numbering system ( which is the same one I use today on all family branches) and gladly shared the first three generations of the Hillpot family. The basis of what is to follow (while enhanced a bit). Through the years Tom has inspired me and provided me countless pieces of genealogy for nothing more than a thanks. Yes Tom is a cousin to me and I am thankful. As time goes by we find more and more family connections which surely has no bearing on his kindness. His contributions to the Spruance Library and others in this field are nothing less than extraordinary. This will be known as the first Generation until further information on the immigrant is located. As with all of my pages if you locate any errors please contact me so corrections can be made.
Much of the following information was provided by Rev. Gerald Myers of
Hooversville Pa. 1. ANNA BARBARA HILBART Born about 1728, possibly in Europe. Confirmed in 1743. Died prior to 1787. Married Melchior Durr (Deurr) November 20, 1745. 1790 North Hampton County, Melchor Derr 101 Lynn Twp. I suspect that since Anna was confirmed in 1743 and married in 1745 she was probably born around 1728. This also leads me to believe that George Adam was married prior to his arrival in America.
11 Margareth Barbara Durr Born March 19, 1747 12 Anna Maria Durr Born October 31, 1750
2. ANNA MARIA HELIPORT
Born ca. 1731. Confirmed the day after Easter 1746. Married October 16, 1750 by
Reverend Johan Casper Stoker to Johann Heinrich Schnauber in Minisink New
Jersey. They were living in 1787 but where?? Perhaps Sussex New Jersey. Much
more research will be needed here. I received a letter from Douglas Snover of
Mesa Az. His work says she was born in 1724 and died September 22, 1813 in
Knowlton, Sussex County, New Jersey. This seems a little suspicious since she
was confirmed 1746 . 3. GEORGE ADAM HILLPOT
(HELLEBART) Came from Durham Twp. Born 1734-1736. I have no
record of the birth, but there is a confirmation record on November 5, 1749 at
New Hanover Lutheran Church that says he was 15 years of age. The first recorded
marriage at the Tinicum Lutheran Church was on April 10, 1759. The marriage was
of George Adam Hillpot to Maria Phillippina Schnauffer by Reverend Johann Wolf
Litzel, who later was the pastor at Salisbury Church near Allentown. Maria was
born August 22, 1740 the daughter of Johannis Schnauffer. She died August 16,
1807. Confirmed Anno 1757, June 18 Maria Phillippina Schauber, dr. Johannis,,
from New Jersey, age 16 years 6 months. Recorded in the Trappe Lutheran records.
N.J. Archives Will of Johannes Schnauber, Maria Phillipina was listed but not
her married name) . In an effort to figure out Georg's life a time line was
developed. After his Confirmation in 1749 the next church record was that of
1754 at New Hanover Lutheran Church where he and Elizabeth Markler sponsor the
baptism of Philip and Magdalena Erwer's child. No other information was found
until his marriage, where he turned up in the Tinicum Area. Then George and his
wife sponsor many baptisms at Tinicum and Keller Lutheran Church. December 4,
1775 Tinicum Twp. Page 72 George Helpot has 150 acres of land, 2 horses, 3
cattle and 8 sheep. His Last Will And Testaments was made 16, February 1777. The
Will starts off with being very weak and sick but of sound and disposing mind.
The Will continues with his beloved wife may stay on his plantation until their
son Johannes becomes 21 years of age. The property was appraised on May 23,
1777. The inventory contains many kinds of material, and yarn, more than one
would expect in a household. A large bible is also noted. There is mentioned a
number of notes and bonds including 2 notes and 1 bond to Adam Earnst and a debt
due from Adam that is considered insolvent, This will be explained in #5 Eva
Caterina. The Will was proven May 20, 1782. The value of George Adams estate was
about 1,000 pounds, rather significant at that time. Buck's County Deeds Book
21:3 Lease of a fishery on the Delaware, Tinicum Twp. Includes Mary Hillepot and
John Neese, planters and fishermen 21, June 1777. Although George Adam is buried
at he Hillpot Cemetery and is recorded as the tombstone as September 1777 at 41
years of age, I was unable to read this and I believe he died between February
16, and May 23, when his Will was made to when it was appraised. In Battle's
Bucks County it says that George Adam died as a result of a fever contracted
during the Revolutionary war, however I see no indication at this time that he
was involved in the conflict. In 1780. The Will as it was proven showed the land
to be 190.25 acres. George Adam was buried by the original log church which came
to be known as the Hillpot Cemetery, in Tinicum Twp. In 1780 Maria Phillipina
Schnauffer Hellepart married 2nd Killiam Kressler, he was born June
23, 1746. Maria died August 16, 1807 and is buried next to George Adam Hillpot
and Kellian Krallar who died June 23, 1815.Her tombstone Mary Krasler Aug. 22,

CATHERINE HILLEBARD Born
1736+ Married John Ness or Johannes Nuss. By 1760 they lived in Tinicum Twp.
Much research is needed here. Throughout The Hillpot family records of that era
either Jacob & John Nuss/ness names appear on all sorts of documents in the
Tinicum area. In 1779 John Nease has 100 acres of land 2 horses 4 cattle.

Married November 28, 1757 Adam Ernst of (it states Bedmin) Bedminster Twp. by Pastor Johann Casper Stoker. In the German Society Records Volume vII p. 498 Trappe Lutheran Church Records of Marriages at New Hannover bride and groom live with John Potts, esquire in Douglas Township (Potterville area). She is listed as Hillebartin, ( which was one of the various spellings of the Hillpot family at that time) Eve Catherina daughter of Adam. Since Eva has quite an interesting history I will try to insert as many pieces of documentation as possible, there seems to be some degree of concern as to weather she was a Hillpot or not. I find no reason to disbelieve that she was. The following is a tentative history that was found in the book "Bedford County Indians" by James Hostetler. They settled in Bedford Twp. Cumberland County, later Bedford County near Reynoldsdale along the Dunnings Creek in 1775. In the fall of the year 1777, Indians attacked their log cabin, killing Adam and two neighbors who were visiting. The four eldest children escaped. Eve was captured with her 2 youngest children, Henry and Michael. They were taken North to the Frankstown Trail, over the Kittannig trail. The three were taken from Indian village to village until they were ransomed at Detroit to the British for rum and money. They remained in Detroit throughout the Revolutionary war and long thereafter. It was nearly 5 years thereafter the hostilities ended before Eve finally obtained her release. She and her 2 children returned home after nearly nine years from the date of her capture. Here she was reunited with her children, whom she had not seen since that fateful morning in 1777. Her older children were all married and had families of their own. Eve would eventually remarry and settle on a farm at Dutch Corner not more than 10 miles from the original homestead. Eve would henceforth be known as "Indian Eve" a legend in her own time. Today the graves of the three men killed at the massacre can still be seen at the site of the old homestead. Small fieldstones were set by neighbors to mark the place where each man lies. Eve is buried in the graveyard of the Messiah Lutheran Church, at Dutch Corner Bedford Township, Bedford county with this inscription over her grave. Indian Eve Wife of Adam Ernst 1740- 1815 Captured by Indians 1777 held prisoner 8 years in Detroit 1 year Fort Duquesne Rode a pony home Her descendants are from coast to coast The time line of Eva and Adam Ernst will add as I find more 1757 November 28, Ernst, Adam from Bedman Twp.
