CANADA HILL CEMETERY

SOLEBURY CHURCH CEMETERY

Located in Solebury, Bucks County, Pa., at the intersection of Route 202 and Upper Mountain Road. The cemetery was transcribed by Catherine, Douglass and Frances W. Waite with a report filed 14 October 1979, by Frances W. Waite for the Bucks County Historical Society. This information is available at the Spruance Library. Fran’s documentation shows 17 rows starting from the highest row on the hill and working down in a southwesterly direction. The owner at that time of the Solebury Baptist Church was Country Antiques At The Church. The Church at present day 16, July, 2003, is still an antique shop and I will try to locate additional information on the Church itself. In Fran’s report there is a very interesting notation: It is said that the cemetery was once across U.S. 202 and that a farmer bought the land for $75., and the tombstones were moved. It is also said that some of the interred are negro, in the lower part of the cemetery.

While I do have a list of the tombstones and their inscriptions, which were partly copied at the library, it will not be displayed here since this was the work of Francis W. Waite and feel her work should not be published. Below are a couple of photo’s I took while visiting the cemetery.
